Our Practices

Foundational practices for embodying and expressing The Experience of We

Navigating Catalysts Together

A quick start guide

Some moments are ordinary. We move through them without much consequence.

Other moments are charged.

Something is at stake. The relationship could shift, for better or for worse, depending on what happens next. A conflict reaches a critical point. A vulnerability gets unexpectedly shared. A truth becomes clear. A hurt surfaces and asks to be addressed. A pattern finally becomes visible.

These are catalyst moments. Crossroads where enough energy has accumulated that change becomes possible. The moment demands something of us. How we respond will shape what follows.

What makes them catalysts isn't their content but their charge. The sense that this moment matters. That what happens here will ripple forward.

One practice to try

Think of a person in your life who’s open to experimentation, and invite them into trying something new with you.

Recognizing the crossroads

The next time you feel that heightened quality in a moment between you, name it.

  • Notice the charge. The energy in the room shifts. Your body registers it: heightened attention, activation, a sense of stakes.

  • Name what you feel. "This feels like a moment that matters." "I sense something important happening right now."

  • Slow down. Catalyst moments are where our automatic patterns most want to take over. Slowing down gives us the chance to respond from choice rather than habit.

  • Ask: “What does this moment need from us?” Honesty? Softening? Space? Courage? Let the moment tell you, rather than forcing a response.

  • Stay connected. The temptation in a charged moment is to retreat to separate corners. Stay in contact. Keep one thread of connection alive, even when it's hard.

One moment recognized as a crossroads, met with awareness rather than autopilot. That's the practice that turns difficult moments into openings.

The full guide, Navigating Catalysts Together, has several practices for recognizing and engaging catalyst moments

  • Reading the body's signals of heightened energy

  • Staying present when the stakes feel high

  • Responding from choice

  • Learning from how catalysts resolve

  • And more

It also explores where catalysts come from, how they move, and why these moments are where the real transformation happens.

Some moments carry the potential to change everything. Let’s learn to meet them well.
