Our Concepts
Concepts that help us orient within relational reality
Meta-Technology
A meta-technology is not a specific tool like a hammer or smartphone. It’s a system of tools, symbols, and structures that shape how we make meaning, regulate behavior, organize identity, and relate to each other and the world.
Meta-technologies do not merely enable human experience — they entrain it. They create the grammar by which we interpret, feel, act, and become. Meta-technologies operate at the level of pattern-conditioning by shaping what we even perceive as possible or desirable.
And most historical meta-technologies have done this unconsciously. That is, they were not designed with an awareness of their entrainment mechanisms. They emerged organically, shaped by evolutionary pressures, trauma patterns, power consolidation, or accidental feedback loops. They influenced consciousness profoundly, but without conscious participation by those embedded in them.
Examples of historical Meta-technologies and their entrainment patterns
Religion
Function: Offered frameworks of meaning, belonging, morality, and metaphysics.
Entrains: Identity through myth, ritual, cosmology, and moral authority.
Mechanism: Symbolic entrainment — shaping perception through archetypes, stories, and sacred duties.
Often unconscious: Most adherents inherited belief systems rather than choosing them reflectively.
Money / Markets
Function: Facilitates exchange and resource allocation.
Entrains: Value perception, social status, decision-making priorities.
Mechanism: Incentive entrainment — conditioning behavior toward profit, efficiency, and individual gain.
Often unconscious: People act based on market forces without perceiving how those forces shape consciousness.
Language
Function: Enables communication and thought-structuring.
Entrains: Perception, cognition, and even the boundaries of what can be imagined or named.
Mechanism: Semantic entrainment — constraining thought through syntax, grammar, and metaphoric inheritance.
Often unconscious: We speak our language without noticing how our language speaks us.
Culture / Nation-States
Function: Organize large-scale human coordination, values, and identity.
Entrains: In-group/out-group dynamics, memory, emotional loyalty.
Mechanism: Narrative entrainment — shaping the past, present, and future through collective myth.
Often unconscious: National or cultural identity is internalized before it is examined.
Why Is This Important?
Because these meta-technologies shaped humanity’s evolution, but they also led to many of our current crises:
Climate collapse (driven by extractive economic incentives)
Tribal warfare and systemic violence (driven by unexamined cultural or religious myths)
Dissociation and meaning crisis (from linguistic and symbolic fragmentation)
We were entrained by invisible scripts. And those scripts are now unraveling.
